How Interior Designers Help With New Home Designs

You are finally in a position to have a new, custom home built for you and your family.  What an exciting time this is!  Or, are you feeling overwhelmed?

If I can give you any advice at all – it’s this…Hire an Interior Designer before you start the build to help you through the process!

It can be extremely overwhelming if this is your first new home build.

There are so many details that will contribute to having a satisfactory end result.  All of which need to be determined before you start.  Planning and staying on budget is key and working with an experienced Designer who will steer you in the right direction for your design materials and selections, will definitely be one of the best investments you will ever make.

A Designer will help you look at the house plans and review all the details such as functionality and flow, purpose of the rooms, design details in each space, paint colours, design elements you want to see incorporated, lighting placement and style, furniture placement, electrical and plumbing fixtures and positioning to name a few.

One thing to always consider is to build with resale in mind.  If you personalize your home too much it may be difficult to sell down the road or at the very least, not provide you with a good return on your investment.

Before you start:

  1. Find the right lot
  2. Check the reputation of your Builder
  3. Know your numbers
  4. Build with resale in mind

Kitchens and bathrooms are areas where you really need to plan well taking into consideration various elements that will keep these spaces current for years to come.  Adding in design elements that give it a more expensive look and feel, yet not break the bank will provide you with the elegance you are looking for at a down-to-earth price.

You should truly enjoy the process of designing and building a home that you have customized for yourself.

There are many steps and decisions to be made along the way and if you educate yourself, assemble the right team and remain realistic with your expectations this will be an extremely rewarding experience.
